Conclusion post and final thoughts

Can I say that I really liked this class! I really enjoyed the interaction with the class every week and the class was great because almost everyone participated and we always brought up fun and interesting topics to discuss. I have taken other classes that are 1 or 2 days a week and this class was just the perfect amount of time. I really cant pay attention when i'm in class for more than an hour or two but this one was fun and thought provoking.
The content in the class was about our (E)dentity, which is our online identities and who we portray ourselves online and offline. I thought it was really interesting who we can be online, because we do not have the type of social interaction we would have when being in front of real people. We can say what we want and not really have to deal with peoples responses. I feel that sometimes it can be a good way to speak your mind and have anyone respond to your posts, like a blog where you can do that. I enjoyed this subject becuase I believe that it especially pertains to us in this technological age and we need to learn to interact socially through the media like Facebook and twitter, and we still need to socialize with people face to face when it is all too easy to do it electronically. Overall I really enjoyed this class! I wish It was offered as english 2010!

In class writing

A week without technology I think would be relatively easy for me. I think all I would need are some books, people to interact with and a journal to write in. I do like to be informed with what is going on in the world through technology but i guess i could get that from newspapers and other ways!

In class writing

With the amount of friends i have on Facebook, I would say that out of all of them maybe 50 of them are really close friends but the rest of them would probably be acquaintances and kinda distant friends. I wouldn't say that i talk to all of these friends but I like to have them in a place like Facebook so I can see what they are doing and they can see what i'm doing.

Journal entry 14

Today i'm planning to hike up adams canyon because there is a cabin up there and it is open to anyone who want to go to it. I think it's more used in winter, but we'll use it anyway. One of my friends has already been up to it and said it's kinda crappy and probably a bunch of pot smokers go up there. He said there is even a pot leaf painted on the front door. He said it takes a few hours to get up there so i think we'll start around 6pm so were not in the heat of the day. Hopefully the weather stays as good as it is now during the morning and we don't get rained on as we go up!

Journal entry 13

A friend and I decided to go rock climbing the other day at this place called "the front" and it was pretty fun! I haven't been in a long while and my calluses on my hands are basically gone, so it was pretty rough on my hands. We went bouldering for a an hour or so and by then my hands were already beat up, but we decided to continue climbing the bigger stuff. After a couple of hours being there, my hands had huge blisters on them and it was time to go. This gym is on like 22nd in ogden, so it's pretty near the new ogden temple, so on the way back we got to drive past the new temple and it looks really different. This next week I think i'll be able to go through the open house and see inside!

Journal entry 12

Continuing my post about my red castle lake trip/hike. The next day we decide to just take a day and hike up really quick. We did hear that it was about 30 miles round trip, but we didn't really register how far that really was. As we started out, we felt pretty good, but after going about 10 miles, we were starting to get tired. We felt like we were getting delirious already when we reached the top at 15 miles and the thought of heading back down felt like it was a daunting task. All the way back down, we had to talk a lot to each other to distract ourselves from the pain in our legs. It felt like it took forever but we finally got back down after 30 miles and went back to camp. We decided to never do that again, but in retrospect i'm glad we did it!

Journal entry 11

A couple weeks ago my friend and I went on a camping trip near kings peak utah. It was only for 3 days but it turned out to be more than we bargained for. I brought up everything i thought i would need like a sleeping bag, pillow, food, snacks and other things. The first night was pretty bad and turns out that my sleeping bag wasn't warm enough for the night and i had to sleep in the car that night. So the next day we decided that it probably wasn't a very good idea to hike up there and sleep overnight. We planned to go to red castle lake the next morning for a day hike. I guess i can leave the next part to my next journal entry, but i recommend the hike to red castle, cause it's super pretty!

Journal entry 10

Last night i finally finished a book that i have been reading for the last few months. Its called A Sliver of Light and its about three americans that were imprisoned in Iran a few years ago and they were recently released a year or two ago. It tells of their solitary confinement and the conditions that they were treated with. I really enjoyed this book because the reason they were released was not really because of the US government but because of social involvement on the part of anyone who was not part of the government. For the government it was not that americans were imprisoned that they wanted to get them out, but everything was political and whatever was to the governments' benefit. It was a really great book and i recommend it!

Journal entry 9

Well, lets get another journal entry done! I've come to realize that having been in college for 3 years kinda sucks now. haha. I've gotten used to classes and homework stuff, but just the fact that i've been doing something for 3 years straight with almost no end in sight kinda feels like a bummer. But luckily i'm this far into it that i realize that if i stop now it would be completely pointless. I just have to keep telling myself, just a couple more years and i'll be done!!

Journal entry

Holy crap, I totally slept through class today! I got home from work and I totally crashed, but that hasn't stopped me from doing my homework!haha. The past couple days me and my family have been without internet, and i thought about going down to the library to finish my stuff. But that just seems like something you don't do anymore, and who even goes to the library anymore!? haha, but my paper is on technologies advantages and disadvantages, and ive been able to come across a lot of stuff that seems pretty interesting.

In class writing

I wanted to do a modern day post by Vincent Van Gogh, and i think this is what he might've said.

"OMG, just cut my own ear off! LOL #whydididothat#canthearcrap#whatshouldidowithit#ohwell#yolo"

thats just my thought. haha

Journal entry #8

So i got to jackson hole! I've been here once before but it was a super long time ago. I thought the drive would only be a few hours, but turned out to be like 5. I hate long drives! We're staying in a trailer camp that has all the amenities and crap, but i prefer the outdoors and sleeping outside. I was on a campout just yesterday up near pineview reservoir, and i used my new bivy sack, which is just basically a waterproof sack you put over your sleeping bag. I thought it was great and i slept pretty well. It's a pretty nice town, and it's almost like park city. I've still got some time so we'll see what i still can do! I hope i can go kayaking!

Journal entry

Well this last week was my mothers birthday, and she's not the type of person for gifts. I did get her a funny card and some of her favorite chocolate. She decided last minute to go on a camping trip to jackson hole Wyoming, and it was kinda tough for me to get work off and i'm hoping i'll be back in time for class on monday! I'm sure it'll be fun and we'll see how this goes!

Journal entry #6

Well this last weekend i went on a camping trip up in morgan, and it was pretty fun. I got to use my new bivy sack and just sleep outside a tent. The weather was perfect and all night it was pretty warm. This campsite is right next to a really wooded forest, and the last time i camped in this spot, there were tons of noises coming from the woods, and trees getting knocked down. I thought i would get trampled by something. This time i felt like i needed to sleep outside so i could see what it was. Turns out it was a bunch of cows. But they scared the shiz out of me. haha

Journal entry #5

Well I guess I should get back into this blogging thing. I've never had to do this before, but it seems like I already suck at it! Anyway, 4th of july kinda sucked. I didn't get any fireworks and I didn't even watch the fireworks. Im kinda boring, Im not really into buying stuff that blows up. Well it looks like this class is already going by super fast! does anybody else feel that way?!

In class writing week 2

Some reading I have done in the last week
1. some twitter feed
2. and audiobook called "Unbroken"
3. facebook
4. internet news (CNN, Fox News ect...)
5. My english blog
6. annotated bibliographies
7. religious books

I think the amount of books and material that I have been reading, is pretty normal for me. I love to keep up with the news and current events. Im glad it is easy to find out what is going on in the world. A lot of my friends live far away from me, and it would be kinda hard to keep in contact over the phone or letters. Internet is great for this reason, you can communicate with anyone, anywhere, all over the world.
I really only read stuff I like to read, and sometimes it seems like a lot. I have so many books I have started and haven't finished! There are so many subjects that are interesting!

Journal entry 4

Well today it's super hot! Almost a 100! After work today I came home to put up our new vinyl fence up! I've been thinking lately, about our internet identities, and how we really can be different people in person than we are on the internet. I know of some people who are really shy and timid in person, but are super outspoken on the internet. Im not saying it's a bad thing. It seems as though our society awards outspokenness and extroverted people, and when you're an introvert, it can be difficult for your voice to be heard.  I think the internet is a great place for introverts, who like their privacy and quiet, to be extroverted and still feel comfortable in their own skin.

Journal entry 3

Well this kinda sucks. I thought I had started and even half way finished my annotated bibliography! Turns out that I was doing it wrong! Anyway, its underway and it's kinda hard to find so many different citations. Im going to do a pretty popular topic, its called "Is technology making people smarter, or dumber". I know, pretty generic right? Oh well, I think this topic is pretty interesting! Lets see how it goes!

Journal entry 2

From reading "why I blog", it seems that blogging is a very good way to get your ideas out as soon as they come to you. I think it's a good thing that people can see what you write, because you can get some pretty good feedback. Unlike people who plan out what they want to say over a long period of time, bloggers are able to write instantly and even receive that feedback instantly.

In class writings week 1

10 words that would describe my "identity"
1 Quiet
2 athletic
3 knowledgable
4 talkative
5 adventureful? (totally spelled that wrong)
6 thoughtful
7 kind
8 worried
9 hard working
10 oblivious
Well those are the words that I think best describe my "Identity", but they could be totally different to everyone else who knows me!

10 words that describe my "E"dentity
1 quiet
2 almost non-existent
3 watchful
4 traveler
5 complainer
6 jokester
7 reserved/mysterious
8 photographer
9 adventurer
10 conscientious
I feel that these words would best describe me online because I feel that I am a completely different person face to face.

Journal entry 1

Well, I guess my first journal entry should be about how bad I am about writing in a blog! It's a little different, because I've never done this before. I guess i'll just have to keep doing it to get better!
